Hi
I need to knowwhat kind of plant this is, and if it is safe to feed it to my birds? (mainly budgies) Does anyone know if it would be toxic to them?

RE: What plant is this?

Hello I'm not quite sure but I think it belongs to the family of Red Eucalyptus plant native from Australia.

I don't think it's a eucalypt. It looks more like a new zealand christmas bush

Here is a link that might be useful: Vireya Rhododendron Nursery

It's not a eucalypt..I looked up pics of both the plants you's mentioned, and I don't think it's either.
It looks quite similar to a nz christmas bush, but there are differences, so I don't think that's what it is..
Here are some more pictures of it. You can see the flowers it has and the last pic is of the flower before it blooms..I guess that would be the right wording..You can see it in the first two pics I posted in my first post, too.

i think this is probably a 'Calliandra' but i am not sure what species.

Thanks. I've looked for pictures of what you mentioned, and I am positive it is a "Calliandra haematocephala", or a red powderpuff plant. All the pictures of it are identical in every way to my plant.
If it is this plant, do any of you know if it is safe for budgies etc to eat, as one site mentioned it is native to Bolivia (not Australia)? Or even if it is safe for the native birds to eat?

forgot to mention it wasn't native - honey-eaters get into it so i can only assume it is safe for budgies. i live in brisbane and you see calliandra used for hedging here and there. nice flowers! i always thought it was a native too until i asked my hort. teacher.
