qld bottle tree - moving

| Hi folks. My guess is that there would be very little difficulty involved in moving a fairly small qld bottle tree (Brachychiton rupestris) - is that correct?
It has been planted out for probably about a year, and is around a metre high. We have to move for work reasons, and I would really like to take it with me, provided it will do it no harm. |

Now that's something I'd like to see. I'm curious about the look of the roots. I have an idea that there would be a fair bit of rather fleshy taproot, though possibly not too deep. I've had 2-metre high bottletrees put in (by a bottle=tree grower) for me, but didn't get to see the process. Good luck! Trish |

Yes, Brachychiton rupestris can be dug up and moved. I know a grower who sells adult plants for landscaping. They do have a tap root, but if its broken, the tree still survives, they are amazing trees. The roots go down rather than out, so you need to dig rather deeply fairly close to the trunk. The finer roots branch off the bottom of the tap root. They grow surprisingly well down here in southern Vic. In cold winters they defoliate, but grow a new batch of leaves mid-summer. Joylene |

| Joylene, thanks a million! I'll make that the number one job for the weekend, then! Trish, will try to remember to take a pic of the roots for you! |
