Propagating Adenanthos sericeus

Hi,
Does anyone know if Adenanthos sericeus can be vegetatively propagated? Will cuttings work? If so, on what type of wood and what is the strike rate? If they can't be grow from cuttings, has anyone had anyone tried layering?

Hi Andrew. A. sericeus should propagate quite easly from the current season's growth, as long as its quite firm. I don't know about the exact strike rate as this will vary with your propagating medium and conditions, but from my experience it strikes quite readily. No reason why layering wouldn't work either. Try both and see what's the most successful. This plant's pretty rare in nurseries, where'd you come by it? Cheers, Jim

Adenanthos sericeus is fairly common in Native Nurseries and does strike readily from cuttings. I'd be inclined to try tip cuttings as they will give quicker results than layering.

Thanks for the advice. Jim, I picked it up from Gardenworld in Springvale, Vic. I've seen it in quite a few nurseries around Melbourne (not just native specialists). I've even seen it at the local Bunnings.

To be fair, I've really only noticed it in the garden centres for the past year or so. It's possible that one of the nurseries has just started propagating it in large numbers.
