I have got a small (20cm)"Alloxylum flameum, and put it in the ground.
The nursery man told me,that they could whistand minus 6°c,at this stage...
My question is,is it true ?
I havent been able to find an indication of its frost hardiness,on the web.
Thank you in advance, for your responce

| Hi Phil, The information that you require is about Alloxylon flameum (Note name change), Tree Waratah. I found the information on the Website listed below. It says that they will tolerate moderate frost. In one of my reference books it states that a plant is said to be frost tolerant if it copes with temperatures to -7C. It seems that your Tree Waratah may be fine in your conditions. |

Thank you "Mallee"for your comment, and congratulation for your web page, talking about "Banksia" quite interesting! I do agree with you, with the fact that many Banksia are very adaptable....i have a tendency alcaline soil, and grow, without modification,in this soil, since 6 years,"Banksia prionotes, and cocinea, none is flowering Cheers phil |

Cold tolerant is not the same thing as frost tolerant. I'd be more comfortable seeing your lovely alloxylum protected from frost until it's up above the frost level - maybe a few metres high. It's a tree that's well worth the trouble! Trish |

| I don't know what it is anywhere else however in South Australia -7C is most definitely a frost as well as being very cold! |

| I grow Alloxylon flammeums in Sydney from seed. They definitely resent Sydney winters and in our area we get no frosts at all. After about 3 years there cold tolerance seems to . Protecting them from cold winds is important as is keeping them well mulched. |
