I was looking for a fast growing tree to put at my mom and dad's house. We live in zone 6. Someone told me about austrees. Doese anyone have any information about them? Would you suggest planting them?

RE: Austrees

Hi Kathy,
I undertand that 'Áustree' is a promotional (and trademarked) name in the USA for a hybrid species of willow (s.matudana) developed in Australia. It is not an Aussie native but native to China. These are considered noxious weeds in most of this country and are a common sight blocking up our waterways. It is fascinating seeing how it is marketed in the US.
I have found an info site on austrees that includes some warnings about using this plant for landscaping purposes - I hope this helps

All the best!

Here is a link that might be useful: austrees

Oh dear willows, what a curse, ..Austree, not anything like an Aussie tree! You really have to be so careful about what you plant in your garden.

Good research, Lillypilly.

Fast growing trees are usually short-lived.
