| I will be traveling around the eastern half of Australia for the entire month of August and would love to visit some of the local nurseries. Would anyone please tell me what your favorite nursery or garden centre is and also give the location and what types of things they sell.
Thanks for the info - can't wait to visit your wonderful country!! Any suggestions on things to see would also be appreciated. |

| I'd recommend while in Victoria to visit Katandra Gardens in Wandin to the s/e of Melbourne and see 11 acres of Australian Natives showing off their winter display. Dot & Bob O'Neill also cater for those who just want to get away from it all and offer self contained accommodation units set amongst the gardens. www.katandragardens.com.au If heading to Kuranga Nursery, it is situated in York Rd, Mt Evelyn and is about 5 km away from Katandra Gardens. While in this neck of the woods, why not call in at Karwarra Gardens in Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd Kalorama for more Aussie Natives. Details can be found here http://www.yarraranges.vic.gov.au/karwarra/ I agree with Nathan that if you head to South Gippsland or Wilson's Promontory during your visit, to stop in and have a talk with Ian & Aiko Starkey at Koorooman Nursery in Leongatha North. Ian knows it all about Australian Natives and usually has a good range of plants available. |

| I doubt callalily would be able to bring any plants home. |

| Nathan is correct - although I could if I arrange for a phyto certificate. I will probably only bring seeds and bulbs, and of course as many rocks as my weight allowance on the return flight! |

| Seems a bit of a misinterpretation of my last sentence in my earlier message. I didn't mean it that with Ian having a good range of plants available that callalily had to buy them. Sorry to have made it read that way. |

You shouldn't miss Fairhill Nursery at Yandina, north of Brisbane. Take a picnic to eat in their gardens, or eat in the coffee shop. Trish |

| Is there anyone from QLD or the NT who can recommend any nurseries and/or gardens to visit in that part of the country? Thanks so much to all of you who have already sent me some great info!! |

| I support Trish's recommendation of Fairhill's Nursery at Yandina. I generally go there if I'm in the area. I think it's the best in SE Qld, with a very broad range of rainforest as well as other plants. I also support Rose's recommendation of Neilsen's native nursery south of Brisbane (in Logan City, near the Logan Hyperdome). I have been there twice and it has a good range too. |

| The Palmetum in Townsville, Flecker Gardens in Cairns (both great) and Helga's Nursery in Julatten-between Port Douglas and Mt Malloy. Helga has nice plants but the star attraction is her 30+ BRANCHED King Palms around the carpark. She planted seeds there years ago from a branching palm she had elsewhere in Queensland-really weird. | USA has recently tightened regs for bringing in plant material; now ALL plant stuff must have phyto cert.-even seeds and bulbs |

| Royal Melbourne Botanic Gardens, Cranbourne Botanic Garden, Could be some Open Gardens open, but have not got the book. Nyeremiling, near Lakes Entrance.(ask at Bairnsdale Info centre for directions) Walk through the forest at McKenzie River Rain Forest just east of Cabbage Tree. Drive through the forest at the Murrungower picnic/rest stop. Drive along the Marlo Road there will be lots of wild flowers in bloom. And the ocean. |

| Surprised no-one has nominated Sydney Wildflower Nursery West. It's easy to get to by car. Good range (maybe the best in Sydney?), nice people. You could look at their website. |
