Hello All,
I was wondering does anyone know of a selective herbicide that kills broad leaf weeds not natives and rainforest type plants. I already am using fusilade for grasses but it dont seem to kill broadleaf weeds???

I think I would try to pull the weeds up and mulch. They will eventually disappear as the source of the seeds is removed. The good thing about native gardens is that a few weeds scattered throughout is not too unsightly.

I am also using Fusilade, but as I have so much Oxalis, I have just had to use Glysophate- not near the existing shrubs, but in order to get the area ready for new ones.

Esteem/Brush Off will give better results for weeds with bulbs such as oxalis. But it will also kill native plants.

Garlon will kill dicotyledons but leave grasses (including weedy grasses) and lomandras alone. From experience tt seems to knock back Microlaena but not kill it, and this may be the case with other native grasses.

MCPA will also kill dicotyledons but leave grasses (including weedy grasses) alone. However it will also kill lomandras.

Both herbicides will kill sedges and rushes etc.

Don't we all wish there was something that killed broadleaf weeds (dicotyledons) but not native dicotyledons. Currently there is only one such selective herbicide and that is your hands.

Squiza, if you are already using Fusilade and seem surprised that it won't kill broadleafs then you haven't read the label and as a consequence you shouldn't be using the chemical.
Greg, you are correct regarding Garlon but it is a S7 (Dangerous Poison - and as you know in Vic the ACUP is needed) so maybe Sqiuza isn't registered to use it and may not even be able to buy it. You are right re handweeding - IPM should be the way to go.
