blueberry ash

Has anyone had experience pruning a blueberry ash (Elaeocarpus) tree for the first time ? Mine has become a bit straggly, dropped leaves due to the drought (which no-one seems to acknowledge is still happening, big-time. We've basically missed out on all our late Summer and Autumn rain.) Back to the tree...How far back/heavily can I prune the lateral branches to achieve a bushier tree, with water administered of course..
Thanks |

| If you are unsure about how to prune a plant, its best not to cut into old wood, at least not all over, until you see how it recovers. And it is always best to wait until after the flowers as pruning now will promote new growth, the effort of which could prove too much for an already stressed plant. Of course it depends on your climate, but if the tree is dry, I'd be giving it a good drink and letting it recover a bit before asking anymore of it |
