Several questions need to be answered.
Do they ask you to use plants indigenous to your area, or natives (from anywhere in Oz)?
What is your local climate? Climates vary considerably in Victoria so that species suitable for one area may be very unsuitable for another.

Hi Navy Blue, Do you have a Land Care there if not ask the Local Council they should know.
Or be able to put you on to someone or somewhere that does.
Good Luck...MM

Hi Navy_blue,
with respect to all the knowledgeable people in this forum you are asking the wrong people. You need to get in the car and go to SUNTUFF NATIVES, the address is 1220 Bacchus Marsh Road BULLENGAROOK, talk to Barbara & David Pye and they will give you all the answers you need. Otherwise follow the link and/or give them a call.

Here is a link that might be useful: Suntuff natives

Why don't you ask the council. They should have a list of local plants, and should be able to tell you where to get them.

Hi Navy Blue,

The range of climates in central Victoria is very diverse, so that general advice can be meaningless. For example, I live within 15 minutes drive of Mallee forest in one direction, and within 20 minutes drive of subalpine forest in another direction. Therefore, I would recommend mallees for the first area, and Snowgums for the second area. My own area is different again and would be best suited by other species of Eucalypt. It is best to talk to your local or a nearby Landcare group. A local indigenous nursery is another option. Your will find lists of these on the Greening Australia (Victoria) website.

Here is a link that might be useful: Indigenous Nursery Lists

If this is around Castlemaine, there is a good nursery up there somewhere that grows stuff native to the area. Forgotten the name myself but ask around. The suggestion of getting in touch with the local landcare folk is a good one. They have their own nurseries as well as a wealth of knowledge.
