river reds - how close to a house is desireable?

I planted a couple of found seedlings a year or so ago in a spot to replace some old pines that had carked and not surprisingly they've taken off but I'm now wondering if it was such a good idea. Sure they may look good for awhile but down the line are they going to be a PITA?

River Red Gums have massive root systems once mature and are will reach a decent size within 15 years or so. So sooner or later they will start causing problems with your foundations and underground pipes. You also consider the tendancy to drop limbs. A major limb from even a 15 yo tree would probably do some decent damage to your house. I would not plant one within at least 20m of my house.

Thanks Greg, Well they are 20 metres away, more or less. And as for our foundations well, they're totally stuffed anyway - old house on clay & the extended drought has just made everything even worse.
