Syzygium Elegance Problems

Posted by sgcarter NSW Aust (My Page) on

Gday,
One of my Elegance has alot of ants climbing up and down it and heaps of small (abt 3mm) black round slightly raised scaly lumps on on the branches which I can pick off. The bush also looks a little bit sick but does not appear fatal at the moment.

Any ideas on waht this is and what I can do? I have tried pyrethrum

thanks in anticipation
scott

I just planted 20 of these on the weekend. Plse could you let me know how you go? Are they generally good plants? They looked really nice and I am wanting a hedge ...

Thanks.

RE: Syzygium Elegance Problems

Thanks mistymorn, I just had a look at "Garden Problem Solver" at the library and yes it appears to be black scale.

Aggie,
Yes I have four in pots, they are really nice plants (except for the infected one) They are prone to Physllids (i can never spell that)but I used some Pyrethrum and that has cleared most of that up. My plants are only 6 months old.

I will let you know how the white oil treatment goes
cheers
scott
