Fern enthusiasts

Hello all! I'm a very enthusiastic fern grower on the west coast of Scotland and I'm looking for a similarly keen type who would be willing to exchange spores with me, of temperate native Australasian ferns.

I'm not sure if you're allowed to import non-natives, so I would happliy consider some other form of exchange.

I grow many Australasian ferns already but would like to widen my collection.

Many thanks,

Maurice.

RE: Fern enthusiasts

Maurice, at the risk of sounding nasty, there are quarentine issues here that you should consider.

Laws in Australia require that the exporter of biological materials obtain relevant import permits from the destination country and not doing so will result in breach of Australian quarentine laws by the exporter.

No one in Australia, in the right mind, is going to risk the hefty fines for breaching Australian quarentine laws by dropping some fern spores in the post for you. I recommend that you go through official channels to obtain your fern spores.

As Steve Irwin used to say "quarentine laws matter, don't muck with them".

Maurice,

If you are looking for spore sources without the above import/export issues then you need to deal with EU suppliers, please PM me for info.

Here is a link that might be useful: tree fern spores
