 o
to remove fronds or not and when

I am confused. I have 3 smallish dicksonias bought at the end of the summer 07, with fronds intact. I planted them, and the fronds have survived the winter on all three - which has been quite mild and they are in a fairly sheltered spot (south UK). Should I cut the fronds off to encourage new growth or not ? Should I have done so in the autumn ? One is already producing new fronds from its crown.

RE: to remove fronds or not and when

The fronds have a limited life span and are continually replaced. In the wild the spent fronds droop down and form a dense skirt around the trunk. If they bother you cut them off as they become brown but it will make no difference to the plant.
