We have several plants in a raised bed, well drained in new soil and have cypress mulch on the bed. They grew very well for the first 6 months or so. Since4 then one has died and the others have the same symptoms, some branches dying. I can not see any insects. There does appear to be some fungus on the dead stems near the trunk. I have reduced the amount of watering and nmoved the mulch away from the trunk and applied a fungicide. Nothing has helped.

It could be any one of a number of things. The most likely is too much water. I have had a number of Grevilleas of various sorts die on me like that. On looking back I am sure the most likely cause was overwatering. Have you had a lot of rain during summer? Often it takes a month or so from when the roots get infected with rot, to the symptoms becoming obvious up above. Never put mulch up to the trunk of young Grevilleas. Check pH. It could even be lack of water but I doubt it.

Grevilleas absolutely detest phosphorous. They need to be planted into a fertilizer free soil. I plant into an innocuous soil mix, water well, and just watch with fingers crossed and bated breath. Something helps because they survive!!
