Agapetes meiniana

Does anyone have any experience with this rainforest
plant?
Elliot and Jones describe it as a climber reaching 10
m high (!) however it was sold as a shrubby
groundcover...
I assume it is like many rainforest plants and is a
lot smaller in cultivation?
Any experience with this plant or advice will be
greatly appreciated. I've also read that it may be a
shy flowerer - I hope not.
Cheers

I have had absolutely nothing to do with this plant, but listed under climbers, it is described as 'shrub like - but resting on other plants' (Wrigley & Fagg). It doesn't flower very well, but because it usually grows at a higher altitude it may benefit some exposure to the cold to improve flowering. Should handle a frost if grown in the open. |

Dan, this plant often grows in the same habitat as Rhododendrons however Agapetes occur at lower altitudes too whilst Rhodo's dont. I havent tried growing it in the garden however it requires a humid location away from hot dry winds/sun. It is more a scrambler than a climber and attaches itself to rocks/tree trunks etc by the way of adventitious roots. Kris |

Thank you both - I'll see how it goes in Adelaide's very non tropical summers... Rhodo lochiae does fine, so fingers crossed. Cheers Dan |
