Drew, as it happens I was WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. It is not a Corymbia at all, but Eucalyptus cladocalyx (sugar gum). Apparently it is common in California, but being native to South Australia, I've never seen one. I checked it with my expert friend Gus from Spain on Hardy Eucalyptus Board. The capsules are actually too narrow for C. maculata, even though they are the same general shape. Apparently the buds of sugar gum grow in clusters of 7 or more from a single point, which then becomes a peduncle as it grows out from the stem. The bark is also not a perfect match with C. maculata, being not as closely mottled. chicle sapote is sapodilla but that is not the fruit you are describing (they are like a fine texture brown sugar soaked pear) the latex from the sap was used by natives for chewing gum there are other fruiting trees in that genus, MANILKARA

thanks a lot for the help to both. The pulvulurenta, as i have seen on the net, is one of the subspecies of the gunnii. This one is 1,40 meters, but in March he had just about 80 cms, after a pruning. I have one other gunni but that one give me no doubts, is a gunnii azura, with very small round blue leafs, and has grow to 2,50 meters in a year and 2 months. Now that the summer is ending around here, it seens to stop, in spring will give another strong grow, i believe.

Hello Oboedire, is the second one Solanium laciniatum; Kangaroo Apple, you might need to Google it to see the variations as the pic doesn't show the petiole junction at the fruit. Again try Google for this one; sandpaper fig. I know that the fruit grow along the branches.
