Identification of an Australian Native Plant

Hi there,

This is my first time posting on this website. I would appreciate any help on this matter.

I found this seed in my university and I am interested in finding out which Australian native plant it comes from. I have attached a link to the photos of the seed. Please copy it into your browser address bar to look at the photos.

Thank you. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Looks like the entire seed cone from a species of Banksia.

There are many species of Banksia that would produce a cone that long and would have foliage similar to the bits visible in your photographs.

Yes, a Banksia, but a live flower spike would be a help for ID. Have you seen the plant flowering? Colour?

Certainly a Banksia - but what you actually seem to have is not a seed at all, but a dead flower-head, cut before the seeds have formed.
I am sure a bit of searching on the internet would find you a picture of a seedhead, for comparison.
