screening tree

I am after a tree to screen the neighbour's two storey house. It needs to be fast growing, without fruit, hardy and completely pest and disease resistant. It would be in part to full sun. An Australian native would be wonderful if one with those characteristics exists! Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There is no such thing as an angiosperm that does not produce fruit of some sort. Gum nuts, bottle brush capsules and seed pods are all fruit in the botanical sense, as opposed to the culinary sense. Acacia melanoxylon, Macadamia integrifolia, Eucalytpus pauciflora and Allocasurina littoralis all spring to mind. They all need about 4m of clearance at the base unless you are prepared to prune off the lower branches as they grow to end up with head clearance once the trees are mature. Macadamia integrifolia seems to be quite fast growing down here in Melbourne so chances are it will be even quicker in Sydney given your climate is closer to sub-tropical QLD where it originates from.

I think banana trees can solve your matter.
