Air conditioner water

I have been reading previous posts re grey water in the garden (I use Planet Ark washing powder & collect the rinse water only to use) but have never seen anywhere any reference to using the water from evaporative airconditioners. We collect the water in a large container the use it to water the garden. I use it mostly on exotics but also give the bottlebrushes & westringia an occasional drink.

Does anyone else use it, or heard if there is any problem using it?

Heather - I don't think there would be problem with the water as there is nothing added to it. I don't have an air conditioner myself, but believe they change their water (14lt?) every couple of hours. It's a shame to see it wasted, so why not use it on the garden.

I too use the rinse water only from the laundry on my 'Native' plants, which are thriving as they don't normally get watered at all.

g'day heather,

i don't have an a/c either but i should imagine the water wouldn't have any nasties in it?

as far as i understand it the water is the bi-product of condensation, is that correct? so then it should be near pure?

as gardenlen and justcorreas have said, its not harmful at all. its just the moisture thats been taken out of the air by the airconditioner.

Water from evaporative air conditioners is slightly saline. I run it to various shrubs without any problems.

We don't make much a/c water but use every drop. I cheat with the front loader by making it spin somewhat after the first rinse, may throw that product on something greedy, and then feel free to use subsequent one or two lots of rinse water on anything.
