Callitris as a hedge

I would like to plant Callitris as a hedge on an exposed windy( often) site in Nowra NSW. Would they be suitable and how quickly do they grow? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I see no reason why Callitris wouldn't work as a hedge but you'll need to be careful which one you get.
Many of them are fast growing, but they include the Port Jackson pine which grow to 15m or so.
If you're able to get your hands on a dwarf variety (I believe there is one)it should be fine.
From all accounts Callitris are hardy.

Good luck
Roy

I like Callitris too, you could also think about a Casuarina, or Allocasuarina. They are fast growing, and they have two attributes which I like. The needles fall on the ground under the trees and make a lovely soft mulch, which other plants dont grow in, and that lovely soft sound when the wind blows through them, its really peaceful.

They are easy to propagate yourself, if you happen to have some close by, you could even think about collecting the seed yourself and growing them and then planting them out. But that may take a few years to get what you want.

Another idea for you to ponder.
