 o
perennial basils

I have one "perennial basil" that's now a few years old and survives a thorough chopping each year. The leaves are half an inch long, rough and strongly scented, a bit clove-like. The flowers are white tinged with purple and the bush (2' in height) is very woody. It's definitely not O. gratissimum.

I came a cross another "perennial basil" today in Bunnings. The scent is more refined and the leaves are longer, wider thicker and softer. Both are from commercial sources.
Can anyone tell me the botanical names for either of them? I'm afraid I don't have any photos as yet.

It's not Greek or Opal, but thanks for the suggestion Leyla. Unfortunately the "Greek" basil doesn't do at all well in my garden, which is a pity as it's taste is so similar to regular basil.
I'll have to get some pictures posted.
