Lemongrass in Toowoomba Qld

I have tried transplanting a clump of LG from Brisbane which has a warmer clime. It did not work, mind you, it was in winter and we suffer many frosts. Before I annoy my friend again, I would just like to know if LG actually does grow in Toowoomba? Does it cope with frost or is it best if kept in a pot under the patio. Does it not need plenty of sun? Any advice on this would be appreciated.
I have read many bits of advice from the site and thanks for all the tips on how to germinate and care for LG.

| g'day jenny, i grow it here north of gympie and we get frost had our worst frost ever this winter lost lots of stuff but the lemon grass is still flourishing, mines well established now. i would suggest if you get it planted early in the sring/summer in a nice sunny spot it should be settled in for the winter. mine grows in full sun and probably suffers from not enough water at times. and for some general information all the following have come back on in full - ginger, yakon, sweet potatoes, citronela grass & galangal. i do mulch heavily and just priot to winter setting in so the corms/tubers/root balls are well protected from the cold. len mail len lens garden page |
