Not sure how long it has been about but think it's only new on the market - I bought punnet of "Basil Lime" today. "The leaves are strongly lime scented with just a hint of sweet basil." Very different and very appealing. Botanic name: Ocimum americanum; it is from the Renaissance Herbs co.

It's not new - been around for years, along with lemon basil and anise basil and numerous others. It's gorgeous, but I've found it to be very short-lived. Take cuttings regularly to keep up supplies of on-coming plants. Don't rely on the seeds to 'breed true to their mother'.

I haven't had much luck with any O. americanum varieties (lime, lemon, native...) - they flower and cark it all too soon. I'll definitely try regular cuttings though (thanks, Daisy). As for lemon - I'll stick to lemon verbena, thyme and myrtle - easier by far.
