Hi samadhi

If you haven't found any other info yet, chia seems to cover a few species of Salvia - the seeds are soaked in water until they swell, then drank as an energy-booster.
Never grown this oone, so I'd be interested in hearing from you later down the track.

Cheers

The South Australian Herb Society have a/the? collection of salvias and have made quite a study of them. You might be able to contact them via http://www.gardenclubs.org.au/club_sa.html
There are lots of salvias.
A year or two ago a book was written called "Salvias" You might find it on one of the web book shops (use an Aussie or NZ one)

Put the seed into rich soil/compost mixture. Water once a day - full / part sun.
