Hi
Does anyone know of a herb or any plant for that matter that repels bees. In summer I have a major problem with every bee for miles around coming to my place for water (we have two bird baths and a pond). They are really annoying and I am allergic to them. Any suggestions ???

Bees aren't supposed to like feverfew much. Also, they really prefer yellow and blue flowers, so you might choose to get rid of those colours from your garden. Remember, however, that if you've got fruit and veg, you're going to need some bees around!

i don't think you are going to be able to deter bees, unless maybe if you have a flowerless garden, but then if you grow things like tomatoes, capsicums or any of the vine food crops you are going to need bees for pollination. i too am allergic to bees, so i stay away from their hives as that is the place where you are most likely to get attacked/stung.

in your garden you have very little risk of getting stung unless you stand on a bee with a shoeless foot or pick one up or somehow come in contact with a bee that then thinks it needs to sting you in self defence. i walk through waste high stand of mustard in full flower and full of bees and as yet have not been stung, don't wear shoes either.

can't see the bees visiting your garden as being much of a risk, but if you feel they must go then go flowerless gardening or remove flower buds before they open and remove the water features.

I'm allergic to bees as well, however I find that bees are so intoxicated with Lavender that they pay no attention if you accidently brush them. (I have lavender sharing a window box with roses)

Perhaps planting Lavender on your nature strip, or in a far corner will deter them from your ponds?

Apparently a fully fed bee - or a swarming bee - won't or cannot sting because it cannot get its abdomen into position to insert the sting........so keep them well fed and happy and Bob's your uncle like.
