Tinctures

Hi all herbalist, I have collected all my herbs for making a tincture. The only problem I have is I read that one must use 80% 100% Vodka or Rum. I have found out that there is only 45% Vodka available as well as Rum. There is higher percentage in both but I could not believe the price! For a small bottle it will cost over AUD$50.00 I cannot make my tincture it will cost over $150.00 and I do not have that kind of money. Any suggestions would be more than welcome.

At least I know that it will be Organic and done the way I like to have it with the choice of my own herbs.

This to me is unacceptable, will the 45% work ok? What about Vegitable Glycerin is this just as affective? If yes where would I purchase this in Adelaide? What is the method of using the Vegetable Glycerin?

regards
Steven

I've used the 80% grog ($48 per small bottle?), but found no difference in using 40% vodka.
As for glcycerine, have you tried Auroma in Glenleg? They have a website, too:
Hope this is of some help.

Here is a link that might be useful: Auroma

RE: Tinctures

If you used the 80% (grog) what was it Vodka?

AUD$48.00 was the price of 100% Vodka/Rum, this is a 450 ml a small bottle, I thought very expensive!

Have you used Vegitable Glycerine? ANYONE?

In the USA 100% Vodka is very inexpensive. I heard that Australia 5 years ago took the 100% Vodka off the shelves because young teenagers were buying it and having their stomachs pumped, so they decided to take it off the shelf!
