have planted some coriander a few weeks back and it is already bolting to seed, I cannot use it quickly enough... what am I doing wrong? too much water? not enough water?

Coriander bolts when the temperature gets warm - at least that's my experience. You can get seed of slow bolting coriander, or else sow seed at regular intervals to have a constant supply.

The following place offers slow bolting coriander, though I've nver bought from there.

Here is a link that might be useful: seeds

definitely the heat that does it - I have found this time around, that mulching heavily and keeping it in a slightly shadier spot is helping. I am in QLD, so it is pretty hot here!

thanx for info - they are in a spot that probably is a bit too hot for them - will sew some more in more shade - Kat

Has anyone ever found that if they are doing gardening near Coriander when in full flower, that they get massive headaches?? I found when we lived near, where it was commercially grown, or when I was working near a flowering patch it triggered the real McCoy flashing light headaches. It happened to several other people as well.
These days I only have to sniff it once for one to start, so I have to make do with the commercil manufactured pastes for cooking.

New Gippsland Seeds and Bulbs sell seed of the bolt-resistant variety Coriander "Superharvest".

Or try the Thai coriander , a totally different looking plant but tastes exactly the same . Once you let it flower it self seeds all over the garden . It looks strange , I will take a picture and post in the gallery later .

I read in an article recently in New Vegetarian and Natural Health magazine that coriander helps the body get rid of mercury.

Just got some Yates seeds of Coriander 'Chinese Parsley', which is a slow bolting type. =) I consulted my books and they say that coriander is best sown 'in situ' (Means where it will grow, I think) cos it doesn't transplant well. Also says that attempts to transplant in hot spells and whatnot will make it bolt to seed. Interesting stuff there about the headaches from coriander. Hope this helps for your bolting coriander. =)
