Scraggly thyme

I'm not keeping good thyme. Bit scraggly. Not much new growth. Doing the right stuff. Not overwatered, touch of liquid feed. Should I cut it back hard to stir growth. Have a second bush by the backdoor, so a good haircut of the scraggly one won't leave me short of thyme.

I've got some Bush BBQ Thyme and according to the label they need a good trim every now and again. Mine are still seedlings, I'm waiting until the stems thicken up so I can use them as skewers. I'd prune it like you prune lavender I guess.

Thyme is by nature a bit of an untidy plant. It gets more and more untidy the older it gets, and it is usually recommended that you replace it every 3-4 years or so. Give it a hair cut regularly by using it! Also, remember that thyme needs full sun, and lots of it - if it doesn't get enough light, it will get even more scraggly.

Give it a good trim and use the cuttings to propagate new thyme plants to replace the old scraggly one. You can never have enough thyme!
