Has anyone heard about ways to stop an annual fom going to seed by cutting out the runner that the seeds come from to extend the life of the plant?
I have enough seeds, but am I wondering if its possible to stop it from going to seed and shortening its life.

I guess you mean the flower stalk. Cutting it off just delays the inevitable. The plant will try even harder to flower and if you keep cutting it off it will eventually give up the ghost. I suppose you would gain some extra time but just how long would depend on the species and the growing conditions.
