Minature Curry Plant - Propagation?

Posted by Desi_R MELB Aust (My Page) on

Hi all,

This curry plant apparantly doesn't grow large in height or width as it's contemporaries. However the nursery only had one of these left and I really would like a few more, does anyone know how to propagate this type?

Is it a matter of cutting off a shoot, dipping it into hormone and planting it as a new seedling?

Any advice is always appreciated.

Cheers,

Desi

I haven't seen this plant in the nurseries, Desi, but I would imagine it would make a good edging plant. Cuttings can be taken from non-woody stems during any warm time of the year. Keep moist and cover the pot to increase heat and humidity. You could use rooting powder as an added help.

I've got the original curry plant which I've got 10 pots of cuttings from last autumns prunings. All you need is several little shoots, remove the lower leaves, dip in rooting hormone, place them severally into a pot with potting mix, water well and keep in a warmish place out of direct sunlight for at least a fortnight before placing them into open air so to speak.

You should get 70 - 80% success in getting new plants. I've seen the miniature version in nurseries and boy are they shrunken looking ... hope you can get stems long enough for propagating. Good luck!
Steve
