Good herb nursery in Sydney??

| Hi All,
Was wondering if anyone can recommend a good herb nursery in Sydney. I'm hoping to get some of the less common ones. I've found a few mail order places that have some interesting ones but I like browsing and looking at the plants, it gives me as much joy as buying them :)
Hope someone can help.
Thanks

| It's a long time since I've lived in Sydney, but I remember there were several in the Dural area, and one larger one called King's which was mail-order. There is a great one at Erina if you want to travel a little. Sorry, names have vanished from my memory cells. |

I think its called the Fragrant Garden? Last time I went (a couple of years ago) I was disappointed - don't know if its changed hands, but it wasn't as good as when it first began. I have bought different herbs from Honeysuckle Cottage in Bowen Mountain - at one time there were lots of different thymes:-) and chillies and some old English herbs and a few chinese herbs. |

| Fragrant Gardens has changed hands and for a while was closed but re-opened a few months back. It had become quite run-down in recent years; however, it still is only a pale imitation of the Fragrant Gardens of some years back. They don't have a lot of stock and the herbs in particular are only what you can get from most nurseries. I find these days that the only way to get the more unusual herbs is by mail order. |

| thanks all for the suggestions!! Sooze Have read a lot about Honeysuckle Cottage previously but it slipped my mind. Thanks for the reminder. Will have to make a trip out there one of these days. AnnaB, I've also found so far that mail order catalogs seem to have the more unusual herbs like you said. Are there any particular mail order places that you could recommend... good service/plants etc. Thanks :) |

| Lavender, the mail order nurseries I have dealt with and received good service are: Marshall's Herbs (www.herbsalive.com.au) - Good service and good size plants. Otway Herbs (otwayherbs@bigpond.com.au) - Send 3x50c stamps for a catalogue. Good servic. The plants were rather small but the ones I bought have come along quite well. Austral Herbs (www.australherbs.com.au) All Rare Herbs, Qld. (mcplant@hotmail.com) - I ordered 5 plants from them recently and a couple of them were a little scraggly looking; however, they apologized for this fact. The plant have since come on well. I will order from them again. Their service was good. Like yourself, I prefer to browse among the plants, touching as well as looking. Have you been to the Herb Garden at the Botanic Garden in Sydney? |

| The Alzheimer's is in temporary remission today. I've just remembered the name of one of those places near Dural. Hemphill's. I'm going back a lot of years, though! I'm disappointed to hear about Fragrant Gardens. When I last saw it, it was brilliant. |

| Alas, Hemphill's is no longer there.....at least, not as Hemphills. They sold the nursery some years ago. It is still a nursery (can't think of its name now....another senior moment) and still sells some herbs. Their son now runs a business called Herbie's at Rozelle which sells all manner of herbs and spices...dried not fresh. |

Good herb nursery in Sydney?? 2008 update please

| I'll be visiting NSW for the next month and would like to get an update on the best herb nurseries in the area. The last postings are more than 5 years old. More current information on nurseries that carry specialized live culinary and medicinal herb plants would be much appreciated. |
