Ginger

Not sure if ginger is classed a herb but;

I was 'tickled pink' when I got my ginger plant. Imagine my disappointment when I harvested some root, and it was virtually tasteless. The colour was pale, the texture powdery with only a hint of ginger aroma.

Have I the wrong variety, or is it a result of lacking soil nutrients or something else?

RE: Ginger

There are many, many species of Ginger plants. Some are edible, and some are not - most are purely ornamental. The one you want is Zingiber officinalis. When you see 'officinalis' as part of the botanical name, you know for sure you're getting a herb because it means 'medicinal'.

Thankyou Daisy. A piece of invaluable information re the 'officinalis' tag.

thanks
