 o
what kind of sage do I have?

I found a site that had all different kinds of sage pictures. I didn't see mine there. I bought the sage to dry myself and use as smudge sticks. Right now it's about 2ft high. The leaves are white with a hint of green, are long and narrow. I don't have anything flowering off them yet. I was also wondering how I cut the leaves without killing the herb. So how much and when do I trim?

There are many, many different salvias. Someone on Salvias forum might be able to help you. There is a variegated form of the common sage, Salvia officinalis.

The sage most commonly used for smudgesticks is Salvia apiana; however, there is another plant often referred to as a 'sage' used but it is actually Artemisia tridentata. If you do a search at Google for 'Salvia apiana' and 'Artemisia tridentata' you will find sites which are images which might be helpful.

Thanks for helping out. I did find the stick that came with the sage. It is white sage. The stick says to cut the leaves. How much do I cut back? I don't want to kill the sage if I cut too much.
Thanks in advance

I have no first-hand knowledge of smudge stick making, unfortunately, but I found these two sites which may be of help:

http://herbsforhealth.about.com/cs/amerindianherbs/ht/smudgestick1.htm

http://www.smudging.com/Smudge-main.htm

I found these searching at Google (again) for 'making smudge sticks'.
