What herbs?

I would like to start a herb garden, with asian cooking in mind, and have a raised garden bed with a SE facing wall. One end of the garden bed gets heaps of sun while the other ends gets very little. can anyone let me know what would grow well in this garden and if i could plant anything at this time of year.

Thanks

RE: What herbs?

In the sunny parts you can grow most of the Asian veges - bok choy, tatsoi, kangkong etc. Toss in a few chilli plants, too, and some lemongrass. In the shadier parts you can grow things like cardamom (it gets BIG!), galangal, ginger, turmeric.

Autumn/winter isn't the best time to start a garden, because most plants will go into some level of dormancy. Turmeric, for instance, will die down to nothing in winter even here in Brisbane, then come back in spring.

However, if you're dead keen to get started, try the Asian greens - they grow quite quickly. And it won't hurt to bury some ginger root etc and just wait to see what happens next spring!
