Propagating sage

Posted by Redbank Nth Tas Aust (My Page) on

Now that I have got the herb garden wallaby and sheep proof (well mostly) I would like to put some sage in. I have access to a bush which has lots of new soft growth. Can I take cuttings of this or do I need hardwood cuttings? Is now a suitable time to take cuttings.

Regards,
Ron...

RE: Propagating sage

Hardwood cuttings are easier to get going with all Salvias. Even better is layering. Pull some side branches down to the ground and pin them down with a U of bent fencing wire. If you make a nick in the bark on the side that is in contact with the soil it'll encorage rooting. Sage is really easy to propogate in this way.

Cheers
