Pepper Geranium?

I think I've said before that I HATE geraniums, but I recently discovered on that was so unique I've allowed it to live in my garden. It's a regular looking Pelargonium, but has the most unusual black pepper fragrance. Black pepper is the only thing I can liken the smell too, to spite not being able to find a reference to a pepper scented geranium online or in my books. Has anyone here heard of it?

Any mention of unusual scented-leaf pelargoniums and I am all ears. These are among my favourite plants. I have found a reference for you which sounds like your plant:

"Pepper: P. dichondrifolium Small round leaves with an amazing black pepper scent, sprays of white flowers. Low spreading growth habit. Great for hanging baskets."

I hope this helps you.

It doesn't appear to be one that is readily available in nurseries and not even from specialist nurseries such as Buds & Blooms (NSW).

Another reference can be found at:

Thanks Anna for your post. Very interesting. What varieties of Pelargonium do you have currently?

I have just been out to count them and I smell deliciously of lemon, rose, peppermint....hmmm mm. I surprised myself actually....there are about 12 (maybe a couple more). Among them is peppermint, variegated peppermint, several varities of rose, 3 varities of lemon, apple, coconut, nutmeg, Fruit Tingles (a cross between nutmeg & apple) and a couple of spicy scented ones. The reason I am vague about the names is because I never remember to label them.
