Calendula harvest

At what point are Calendula petals harvested for making ointment?

How old can the flower be and still be effective for healing?

Are they better used immediately? Or wilted?

Do the 'fancy' varieties have the same properties as the old-fashioned single yellow?

RE: Calendula harvest

Pick flowers just as they open during the summer, dry on paper in shade.
