Is 'Society garlic' edible?

Can someone please tell me if this is an edible plant, and if so which part?
I was going to plant it just for it's lovely flowers, but then saw it in the "herbs" section at a shop.
I'm wary of poisoning myself and others!
Cheers

Yes, the leaves are edible. Not very tasty, though! Reminiscent of garlic, but not oomphy enough to suit me. Use them as you would garlic chives (which are infinitely more flavoursome).

g'day gardenclogs, i've eaten the leaves not strong enough for me in flavour, have read on searches that the bulb can be eaten also. some search sites say can't be eaten others give recipes. everyone i talk to around me treats it as an edible. if you do a search in this forum we had a discussion on this some time ago. i have both the white flowering and purple flowering sorts they say the purple flowered one is the stronger. len

Mine go in, in the dead of winter, to a fairly well-fed patch or round the roses. The soil is heavy loam and dries out if we have a dry summer. (Not this one, for sure!) I harvest them when the tops are drying off around midsummer. They are neglected, apart from weeding, for those six months. You may need to use a different variety. Perhaps 'elephant garlic' to cope with your warmer climate.
