aloe vera

sorry if anyone has posted on this before, I did a search but could not find.
Would like to know if anyone has harvested their aloe vera for the juice, as I have a friend who drinks it everyday for her stomach and would like to know if I can just squeeze it out of leaves to get the same result as the bought stuff. I don't want to have it on a regular basis (I don't have THAT much aloe vera) but occasionally it would be good.

All I can tell you without research is that the yellow stuff exuded by the green parts of the leaf is not good. Also, aloe vera can be a powerful purgative. I'm sure someone can give you more precise advice, which I would be interested in reading too. |

I understand that juice is harvested from large leaves, like as big as a forearm, that are cut at the base and left to drain into a container, without any squeezing or pressing. As our climate doesn't let me grow it that big I've never had the chance to check this out for myself. Cheers, Penny. |

| I posted a message on the American cacti & succulents forum about the two types of aloe vera. The one we grow over here (and in SE Asia) is a smaller type (species?); the one used in South America is larger (18" leaves) and duller in colour. Wish I could find the botanical name... |
