Should be lovely in stir fries, or any Thai style cooking, chopped into salads or a sprig in a glass with a dram of brandy and some ginger ale! I'd put a sprig or two in my morning juicing.

Cheers

I don't get any 'ginger' smell or taste from ginger mint. Other people do, though, sometimes. Use as Cosmicgardener suggests, but I'd also suggest adding a bit of ginger to boost it a little. It's OK in fruit salad, and goes well with pork. Maybe add some to your apple sauce.

One of the lovely thing we had in our garden as a child was a mint walk. This was a narrow path lined on each side with various mint varieties. My Dad claimed it was a traditional thing like knot gardens and other herbal fancies, but I do remember the wonderful smell after rain when we kids walked through it. I am thinking of putting one in myself - when I get 8 days a week - the Hobart Botanical Gardens have a scented geranium walk up near their herb garden which is also lovely. So at worst, stick it in with other mints and create a special spot.

Do people like the smell of Eau-de-Cologne mint? I am very tollerant of "different" and unusual smelling plants, but I can't stand this one! errrgghhh.. It's like having a red hot poker shoved up my nose. lol

I quite like it! You're not supposed to breathe it right up your nose, you know! (LOL) Just crush and smell from a little distance.

Reminds me of my granny - the evil one!

Reminds me of 4711 NASTY!!!

RE: mint

That's the stuff the evil granny use to splash all over herself to disguise the scent of pee......

Chocolate Mint is good though

Haven't heard anyone talk of 4711 cologne for years. Wasn't it dreadful. I remember that the smell of eau de cologne mint wasn't too bad but it has been some years since growing it.

You learn something new here everyday, I didn't know there was a ginger mint but it sounds tasty.

I swear some people are on drugs when they name these mints. Ginger mint doesn't smell anything like ginger to me. I haev a "lime" mint, I'll be damned if I can smell lime. Also basil mint (the most vigorous mint I grow) smells very much like eaudecologne. I have a very well established patch of Mentha australis now, but that smells almost exactly like pennyroyal to me. I don't fancy using it in cooking, I don't think it's good for you.

Penny Royal is really dangerous for pregnant women. It used to be used for inducing labour.

Yes we've had the pennyroyal discussion. The romans used to use it in cooking a lot, so it's a wonder they didn't die out from all the terminated pregnancies.
