Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me find the best mailorder sources of herb seeds?
Thanks!! |

| You're in WA, and so is a branch of Richters. But Eden Seeds in Qld is a good source, too. You could also try your supermarket or hardware store/garden centre/local nursery for the popular varieties of herb seeds and seedlings. Many seeds can be found in the herb/spice section of your supermarket - mustard, dill, fennel, coriander, anise, caraway, just to name a few. |

| Kings Seeds used to carry a good range. Not sure of their address because I tend to go with Eden these days because I can order online. Linda |

Thankyou both! I found Richters online - can't track them down in WA (or anywhere in Aust) yet. Huge range though, the catalogue looks like heaps of fun! Also found Kings seeds, Austral and New Gippsland, looks like fun. I am finally in a place with a big yard so can grow a garden bigger than a handkerchief - I'm going to have fun! Curious about growing seeds from spice section at supermarket - what do you find the viability is like? Thanks |

| I've had some good results from the supermarket seeds (the ones you use for culinary purposes). As long as they haven't been heat-treated, or have had other treatments like, say, peppercorns (which won't work), they'll be just fine. Fennel, dill, caraway, coriander, celery seeds are probably the best bets. I haven't tried juniper berries or anything like that, but it might be worth a try. If you've got seeds in your pantry, you can probably spare a few for an experiment! |

Sounds like fun! Raiding my pantry........cummin, cardamom, dill, caraway, fennel, some star anise. I wonder if I have some mustard seeds somewhere? Well, we'll see how they go! |

Hi Nicki Richters do have an agent in Gingin WA, but Ive never been able to get them to answer their phone. The number is in the catalogue I agree with using Edens, they have great variety and are an Aussie company For herb plants you could try the Wanneroo Markets (open on weekends). They have a variety of the common herbs and a few of the uncommon ones as well. Another place would be Dunns. They are somewhere behind the Wanneroo markets and have some of the rarer varieties. Look for the signs. There is also a group called the Herb Growers Network of WA that might be able to help |

| Nicki, the e-mail address for Richter's WA Agent is eshcol@iinet.net.au. They will send you a catalogue together with an Australian price list. I haven't bought any seeds from them as yet so I don't know what their service is like. |
