Can anyone advise me of a site with good herb garden designs. Also I can't decide what materials to use. Can't use treated timber because of the toxicity. Not very good at laying bricks. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

Sally, laying a brick garden bed edging is really not hard! And it's more permanent than timber. I agree I would steer clear of treated pine for veggie or herb gardens. Design it yourself! Be imaginative, if you're happy with it it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I think you should give the bricks a go... basically once you have your design you wack in a few wooden tomato stakes and run stings between them. Dig small trenches under the strings for the mortar. Buy that ready mix stuff from the hardware. All you do is add water and mix it up. Use the strings to keep your bricks straight... Wet the bricks before you lay them so they bond well with the mortar. One layer of bricks is enough I think. What do you think???

Hi Jamus, Would you believe I have a son who can lay bricks very well, but you know kids. Pining them down to the job is easier said than done. I may have to resort to blackmail, again!!!!! I do have a design in mind, but just thought I'd see what came up. Thanks.
