Lavandula stoechas 'Wine' losing colour

I planted a Lavandula stoechas in a sunny, well-drained position in October 2003. It appears to thrive and initially produced lovely plum coloured flowers for 2 months. It now produces greenish white flowers. Could anyone tell me what might be happening and what I might be able to do about it?

I hate to see an unanswered question! It's not uncommon for cultivars to revert to the original form after a while. My variegated rosemary is slowly reverting, even though I chop off the dark green sections from time to time. I suggest this is what is happening to your lavender. Most L. stoeches have a white or near-white flower. I don't think there's much you can do about it.

I have a Lavendula stoechas. Early in the flowering season it had bright wine coloured flowers. At present the flowers have faded to a dull cream colour and the plant looks quite unkempt, but the flowers had just set seed and the flower heads are fading into papery pods. I also find that new buds appear green until they start to mature and take on their characteristic wine colour. My plant does this year after year. I don't know if this may be all that's happening to yours or if you do have a plant that is reverting back its wild state. Perhaps check if your flowers are new or old, soft, or crisp and papery.

Thanks for your comments. I'll wait to see whether or not it is a early season/late season phenomenon. If it has reverted, I'll just pull it out. The flowers look like fat, green caterpillars. Nina
