Liquid Ground Breaker

Posted by pennyw74 NSW (My Page) on

I have clay soil in my backyard.

I have bought some liquid ground breaker and was wondering if anybody else had used it and if it really works???

I am worried that my plants just won't survive because of how heavy the soil is.

g'day penny,

better late than never maybe? but just in case you are still monitoring this thread.

i ahve never used the liquid forms but i do use lots gypsum at planting times, i then follow this with lots of mulching, and find the plants handle the clay pretty well after that, in some cases you clay ph nay be too acid then you need to apply a little dolomite, you can have a ph test done for free at most nurseries, get your soil sample from about 6"s down.

happy new year

RE: Liquid Ground Breaker

Hi Penny,

We've just moved in to a new (rented) house with a 5m2 raised garden bed out the back. The soil was completely water repellent and appeared to be solid clay. I've applied groundbreaker twice, thrown a bag of Yates Waterwise over it, dug of layer of compost into it, and mulched it with pea straw. In less than a month the soil has markedly improved. I'm not sure how much of that was due to the groundbreaker, but the combination has been successful. The pre-existing plants are looking healthier too.

Len, good tip about the garden centre testing your ph - I must ask mine.
