Dolomite or Gypsum

Posted by nemo CENTRAL WEST NSW (My Page) on

I am preparing three holes for planting, the soil on my property varies from place to place, usually,(always) I have used Gypsum, because of heavy clay. The condition of the soil I have struck this time is a mystery,it looks great, but is always moist after watering in extreme drought conditions and cloddy it sticks to the spade etc. There are no leaking pipes, I have checked the metre.I don't know if it is a good thing or a problem. after watering about 15 mins the water sits in a mini quogmire, but eventually drains away within an hour Anyway, back to the question, should I use Gypsum or Dolomite to condition the soil, I think the plants are going to need something to be able to get air.

g'day nemo,

well gypsum for sure and heaps of it, can't realy overdose this one, now the dolomite well that depends if the ph is too acid then apply that at the prescribed rate.

also some natives might prefer more acid or no dolomite at all, so use that one wisely.
