Best Mulch for steep hill?

Hi all,
Maybe some of you remember me from years back :)
I was a member but forgot my name/password and changed email so I have joined again.
I went away for a while with depression and anxiety but I am back :)
Anyone know the best mulch for a steep big hill?
Preferably something not too dear as its a very large hill.
Cheers for help

There are still plenty of folk here to give you some advice. Most of the organic mulches are going to wash away in heavy rains. However there are ways of minimising wash off. Scattering logs etc. across the bank at intervals of about every two metres helps a lot. You can even stake down plastic bird netting over the mulch which is very effective. I have used both of these methods and they have proved very successful.

What ever you do, don't use sugar cane mulch. It will end up at the bottom of the hill in a few days. If you use a larger size mulch such as wood chips, you should be OK. I have seen this done successfully in bush regeneration sites. Try planting out with some lomandras (or other local native grass) here and there to hold it all in place until it settles.

Euci mulch was recommended to us and it's worked well on our sloping block but I think recently it's been contributing to the water repellancy problem with the soil. I think it would be fine if you have a weeper hose underneath.
