'Dainty' sort of climbing plant

Posted by Saintin Brisbane (My Page) on

Hi guys

I have a couple of stakes knocked into the ground with two lines of wire running between them. The stakes are wooden and prone to bending a bit, and the whole thing creates a fence to cordon off my patch. I'm looking for a prettyish sort of climbing plant that isn't one of the usual suspects; rose, jasmine, veges, ivy, honeysuckle etc. The plant would have to deal with heavy clay soil and infrequent waterings and afternoon shade. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Corey

What about bleeding heart, or a passionflower, allamanda, a dwalf bougainvillea, hardenbergia, mandevilla, pelargonium, snail creeper, stephanotis floribunda there are so many why dont you type Climbing plants in sub-tropical area into google search and see what it bring up. Some I have mentioned are not dainty.
Good luck with whatever you choose. Cheers..MM.

Thanks Mistymorn,

The dwarf bouganvillia sounds good. Think I might go for a white. Pink would be too hot for a summer that's already too hot!

Why don't you try hardenbergia? There are lots of different colours, and the flowers are spectacular. They don't get woody, and so will not come crashing down if you are worried about the support.
