Is anyones poincianas flowering yet? Mine haven't started but when I was in town this morning there were 2 trees, planted on the footpath, which were half covered in flowers. It has made me realise how close Xmas is.

I also noticed the ones at the school a couple of kms away have bud on them. Must have an extra close look at mine when it stops raining.

Yes! It has buds on it, only a few but it's a start. Flowered last year for the first time but the plant kept growing and the flowers were covered up by the leaves. Hopefully this time we might see the flowers.

If you look very, very closely you can see a couple of buds in the middle. To get any closer I would have had to climb the tree.

Nice looking tree there GH, mine is so small compared to your one.
How old is it or should I say how long since you planted it.
I planted mine in Feb 2002 its was about 50cms tall now its 2100cm not growing very fast.
Glad to hear that yours has buds in it, Gee dont go climbing those kind of trees.
Get a ladder like I do, just jokeing..Cheers..MM.

MM, the tree was planted about 2001 but had been in an 8" pot for a few years. It had been stunted in the pot but took off once in the ground.

It is one of two the same size and I just noticed this morning that the 2nd one had one flower open. I'll try to get a picture of it later but it is hidden behind the leaves so may not be able to see it properly.

It wouldn't have been the first time I've climbed a tree. I was actually in another tree last week pruning off a few branches that had died back. Luckily it had lots of big branches down low to climb on. In my younger years (childhood) I was regularly up trees and now my son does the same.

I managed to get a photo though it isn't really clear. I love the poincianas and can't wait until they are fully out.
