I hope our forum folk from the Gympie area are all safe and well and their gardens and houses in tact after the storm last night.
The storms are really getting a bit too enthusiastic this year
aren't they ?

RE: Are our Gympie ites all O.K. ?

Marion, thanks for your concern. The storm was mainly on the southern side of Gympie, apparently about 10 rooves lost, a lot of trees either uprooted or trees up to 45cm or so snapped off about .5m from the ground. An industrial shed lost part of its roof which landed in the duck ponds across the road.

We are on the northern side so we only got the edge of the storm though it did travel NE up the coast past us. We lost power shortly after 6.30pm (10mins before I had finished tea and I had visitors!) and didn't come back on here until around midnight but other than a ruined tea we didn't suffer any damage. The southern side of Gympie were still without power at 7am this morning with power lines down but were expected back in in a couple of hours.

My in-laws who live towards that way are ok and received 55mls rain, while we had 26mls. I haven't heard much as our local radio station was off air this morning (they're near the shed that lost it's roof) and the other stations don't give a lot of local news.

I forgot to add.

I'm not sure how far south the storm reached but I hope anyone between Gympie and Sunshine Coast is alright also inland Kenilworth, Imbil way apparently received the storm too.

Glad to see your report, G.

RE: Are our Gympie ites all O.K. ?

So pleased to hear that you are ok up there GH and I bet the rain was still very welcome.
Sometimes it lovely to have dinner by candlelight exciting for the young ones,
We only got a lousy 5mm very loudly very early this morning, and I still had to get up at 4am.
To water a lot of the garden as the rain did not manage to get under the very thick mulch.
Cheers..MM.

Thanks everyone

MM, even though mulch is very beneficial it can have it's downside. I'm still trying to get my grass mowed, had planned on doing it Wednesday morning but it was too wet and haven't had a chance since. Now about mid-shin high in parts!

I don't know how Len went, hopefully he will let us know soon. From what I've heard it was mainly just good rain up that way.

Hoping whoever needs rain has plenty soon (without the loud and windy bits).

g'day friends,

we are ok as at present we are in brissy but will be back in gold town country this arvo' friday. so not sure if the storm hit in our area but by the looks of it as it was going though (watched it on mt kanhigan radar from brissy) it looked like it went through about just south/east of gympie, through goomboorian and then to rainbow beach that would suggest it missed our place, but won't know until we get back there.

well they say lightening doesn't strike twice in the same place hey well the sale on our property has fallen over this happened with our last property we sold as well and guess what you never get over it.

so we are back on the market hope there are still buyers around we lost possible sales.

HI EVERYONE, these storms are certainly causing some headaches with all the damage. the only good thing about them is the rain. Sorry to hear that the sale has fallen through gardenlen and right after I spent all week looking for a suitable property for you too!!!!!! And I've even got the coke on ice!!!! Nevermind, at least it gives you a bit more time to pack. We were moving at this time last year, and the heat certainly slowed us down. Not as young as we would like to think we are. Cheers marnie.

thanks marnie,

all ok here as i saw on the radar the storm went to the east sth/east of us we got the fringe gave us around 40+mm of rain out of it that'll do us our land doesn't need much of a drink to thrive.
