Where in Brisbane - to get plants/bulbs

Had posted this in Conversations, but got no responses.

Hello all - I'm from Singapore and will be in Brisbane for a few days at the end of Nov. I would like to be able to pick up some plants &/or bulbs that could survive in tropical/subtropical type environments to bring back here. Unfortunately, I won't have much mobility, as I will not be getting a car. I will be located around the Edward St area.
Are there any nurseries/gardencentres near to where I can find such plants? I understand some large supermarkets may carry such as well. Any suggestions? If any of you do, I would really, really appreciate if you could be as specific as possible, with the names of the place, address and approx how far away from Edward St. Hope that's not too much to ask ;-).

Thanks in advance.

cheers,
M.

I'm sorry you may be disappointed. Some supermarket chains like Coles or Woolworths carry a limited range of bulbs but it's mostly for spring flowering and you are unlikely to find anything useful.
Nurseries are located far outside the Central Business District where you are staying.
There is a Hardware chain called "Bunnings" that have nursery areas, they may have something still in stock for warmer areas - Sprekelia or such. But it won;t be fresh and to be honest there would be little of rarety there.
Closest to Brisbane, the links for there are below - you could access most of them by train.
If you ARE able to import bulbs through Singapore quarantine, you are far better to start researching Australian suppliers who can export to you.

Alison, thank you.

Bunnings sound attractive, esp since it's a hardware chain as well (I could lose myself in a hardware store!). My knowledge of Queensland geography being almost non-existent, would I be correct in assuming that Albion is the closest location to Brisbane?

I can't tell from the map, but how far and how long would it take by train to get there from Brisbane?

Thanks again.

cheers,
M

Sorry M I did not look at the thread again.
May be too late in replying now. Yes I would think Albion would be the closest there's a city rain link here - Albion is to the north of Bris central not a great distance maybe 20 mins
